GM BRINGS BACK THE CHEVY BOLT FOR UNDER $30K

General Motors' (NYSE:GM) revived Chevy Bolt EV will be the lowest-priced electric vehicle on the market when the 2027 model is launched early next year.

At an event for Bolt owners on Wednesday, the carmaker unveiled the new crossover with a price tag under $30K with an even cheaper base model at under $29K coming later in 2026.

Chevy shelved the Bolt in 2023 even though the vehicle was one of the most popular non-Tesla EVs. The vehicle faced an extended recall, and was built on GM's (NYSE:GM) first-generation EV platform rather than the more advanced Ultium platform, leading the company to move onto other models. Public outcry encouraged the Bolt's revival, now with a refreshed front fascia, 11.3-inch touchscreen, and 11-inch digital gauge cluster.

The race for the cheapest EV has accelerated recently as EV makers manage lackluster demand magnified by an end to a $7,500 government tax credit. Detroit’s Ford (F) and GM (NYSE:GM) will continue to offer incentives to drive demand, while the top-selling EV manufacturer, Tesla (TSLA), introduced a cheaper version of its popular Model Y for under $40K.

According to details disclosed by media sources, the new Bolt’s lithium iron phosphate battery cells will have a range of 255 miles, recharge 10% to 80% in 26 minutes, with a peak charging rate of 150 kilowatts, up from 55 kW for the current Bolt.
