Let’s face it. On their own, the ’62 Impala and LS3 crate engine are just a couple of faces in the classic car crowd. But together, they’re like the star quarterback and captain of the cheerleading team hooking up.
But it’s not just any LS3 6.2L lurking under its glossy red hood. This Impala Sport features the GM Performance “Hot Cam” crate engine, which delivers a 14-percent power boost. That translates to a rubber-shredding 495 hp and 473 lb.-ft. of torque to the Nitto NT555 G2 rear tires. The secret to the Hot Cam’s power output lies in a 0.525-inch lift on both the intake and exhaust sides, along with its 219-degree/228-degree duration specs. The intake lift is lower than the stock LS3 cam, but the longer the valves stay open, the more air is pulled through the L92-style heads.
