Mercedes-Benz will unveil an electric model of its best-selling SUV, the GLC, in 2025, according to an announcement made by Electrek.
The wheelbase of this model has been extended by 3.1 inches compared to the existing internal combustion engine model, significantly increasing the interior space—the new MB.OS operating system and 800-volt (V) electric architecture provide a more advanced driving experience.
Mercedes-Benz emphasized that this electric GLC will be the new face of the brand. Ola Källenius, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Group, said that it is not a simple model launch, but a meaningful change in electrifying our best-selling vehicle. He added that we will redefine the SUV market with a new design and advanced technology. The electrified GLC offers a wider interior space and improved ride quality compared to the existing model, and can secure 61.4 cubic feet of cargo space when all seats are folded. It also has an additional 4.5 cubic feet of trunk space.
The GLC 400 4MATIC EQ technology model features a towing capacity of up to 5,291 lbs, surpassing that of the Tesla Model Y (up to 3,500 lbs). Additionally, the ESP trailer stabilization system and trailer steering assist function are included to ensure stable driving.
Mercedes-Benz said that the new 800V architecture and the latest battery technology will allow a range of 161 miles (about 260 km) on a 10-minute charge according to the WLTP standard, and the DC fast charging speed will exceed 320 kilowatts (kW). It is expected to be able to drive more than 400 miles (about 648 km) according to the WLTP standard, and slightly over 300 miles (about 482 km) according to the U.S. EPA standard. The price is expected to be higher than the existing GLC 350e 4MATIC PHEV (59,900 USD), and is expected to be around 65,000 USD.
