FORD’S NEW MUSTANG WAS BUILT FOR ONE THING—TRIGGERING V8 LOYALISTS EVERYWHERE

Ford is giving its four-cylinder Mustang a serious shot of adrenaline with the new 2026 Mustang EcoBoost RTR, a factory-built performance package designed in collaboration with pro drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr. and his team at RTR Vehicles. The result? A turbocharged coupe that’s no longer just the “budget Mustang.” The RTR borrows the GT’s bold front fascia and Brembo brakes, while integrating the Dark Horse’s stiffened anti-roll bars, uprated bushings, and reinforced subframe. The 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine still delivers 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, but Ford’s new anti-lag system—adapted from its GT race cars—keeps the turbo spinning between throttle inputs, giving instant boost and lightning-quick throttle response.

Under the skin, the RTR makes the most of the lighter EcoBoost platform with track-ready tuning. Drivers get sharper steering, sport-calibrated MagneRide dampers, and the same kind of composure you’d expect from a weekend track toy. The RTR also introduces more aggressive visuals: 19-inch wheels, illuminated grille nostrils, distinctive badges, and lime-green accents that match its signature brake calipers. Inside, details like illuminated sill plates, a numbered dash plaque, and custom RTR graphics on the digital instrument cluster make it feel special. The package even includes a GT-style rear spoiler for that extra punch of attitude.

What’s remarkable is how this EcoBoost car transforms from an entry-level option into something worthy of Mustang’s performance heritage. It’s faster on the response, sharper in the corners, and dripping with personality—a four-cylinder with a chip on its shoulder. While pricing hasn’t been finalized, the RTR is expected to come in below the $48,555 V8 GT, making it an attainable thrill machine for drivers who want something bold but practical. It might not make V8 purists trade in their keys, but it proves one thing: the EcoBoost Mustang can finally play in the big leagues.
