Consumer Reports has picked its 10 most highly recommended vehicles for 2025—and an increasing number are environmentally friendly.
Six of this year’s top 10 new vehicles are hybrids, with another being a fully fledged EV. The rankings were based on the magazine’s own testing and owner satisfaction surveys, as well as the vehicles’ performance in government and insurance industry crash tests.
All of this year’s picks come with standard automatic emergency braking, which works at both low speeds with pedestrian detection and faster highway speeds. (The publication last year ranked used cars for the first time.)
“Buying a new car can be both exciting and overwhelming. There are so many factors to consider, but most folks are simply looking for a safe, reliable, fuel-efficient option that fits their lifestyle and budget,” said Alex Knizek, associate director of automotive test development for Consumer Reports. “Our Top Picks list has smart choices for everyone to help alleviate some of the stress of finding the right new car.”
The magazine’s top picks this year are:
The Toyota Camry, Lexus NX 350h/450h+, Ford Maverick Hybrid, Toyota Highlander Hybrid, Toyota RAV4 PHEV, BMW X5 PHEV are all hybrid vehicles. The Tesla Model Y, of course, is electric.
The others are gasoline-only vehicles.
Only the Toyota Sentra and Lexus NX are new entries this year. Others were repeat winners from 2024.
