NISSAN LAUNCHES ITS THIRD-GENERATION LEAF MODEL IN JAPAN AS IT LOOKS TO RETAKE MARKET SHARE

Nissan Motor (OTCPK:NSANY) said Wednesday that it will launch a new model Leaf electric vehicle in Japan on October 17. The third-generation Leaf EV features a significant redesign aimed at reviving flagging domestic sales for the model and strengthening its position against increasing foreign competition, including from China's BYD Company (OTCPK:BYDDF) and South Korea's Hyundai Motor (HYMTF).

Notably, the redesigned Leaf is now a crossover, moving away from the previous hatchback body style. The driving range of the new Leaf is 702 kilometers, up about 50% from the prior range. The new Leaf will also have a faster charging time. The entry price for the third-generation Leaf is 5.19 million yen (roughly $34K), which is lower than the current model. Nissan (OTCPK:NSANY) plans to offer a shorter-range, less expensive version starting in February 2026.

"The new Leaf achieved a vehicle evolution in driving performance, comfort, and efficiency. Its smoother ride and significantly extended cruising range make everyday driving more comfortable," stated Nissan (OTCPK:NSANY) marketing executive Akira Sugimoto.

Shares of Nissan (NSNAY) are up more than 8% over the last trading week.
