FULLY-LOADED 2025 BMW M5 IS LESS EXPENSIVE THAN EXPECTED

  • US configurator for the 2025 BMW M5 goes live.
  • Limited color and wheel options, but BMW offers more than 140 paint options through its Individual service.
  • A fully-equipped M5 is still cheaper than the one-off BMW will auction at Pebble Beach.

BMW sure does act fast. Just over a month after the new M5 was unveiled, the US configurator for the super sedan has gone live. This means American customers (or anyone dreaming of owning an M5) can now configure their dream specification. But how expensive can things get with options? Let's cosplay as a wealthy car buyer and find out.

With a starting price of $119,500, the M5 doesn't come cheap, but it is more affordable than the $127,800 Audi RS7 performance. Starting with exterior paint, the only no-cost option is Alpine White. If you want something metallic or more eye-catching, you'll have to fork over $650 for colors such as Isle of Man Green, Marina Bay Blue, or Vegas Red. The most expensive option remains Frozen Deep Gray ($1,950).

Many Colors To Choose From, But Just Three Wheel Designs

It's worth noting that BMW also offers 145 additional colors through its exclusive Individual service. Here, customers can choose from virtually anything they want, from vivid yellow hues to seductive purple shades. Of course, this will come at a specially calculated cost. There are just three wheel designs to select from but, happily, they're all available at no extra cost.

All three are staggered, with 20-/21-inch wheels on the front and rear axles. The M Dual-Spoke '951M' design can be specified in Dark Gray or Jet Black, while the M Dual-Spoke '952M' alloys are only offered in a Bicolor black finish. We had hoped for more variety inside; BMW offers just four Extended Merino leather interior colorways:

  • Silverstone/Black
  • Red/Black
  • Kyalami Orange/Black
  • Black

Expensive Options Push Up The Price

As for trim inlays, the M5 receives Aluminum Rhombicile interior accents as standard. Customers can specify Fine Wood Dark Oak High Gloss or Carbon Fiber Silver Thread High Gloss for an extra $200. The most expensive option by a long way is the M Carbon Ceramic Brake system, which comes in at a hefty $8,500. M Drive Professional ($900), M Driver's Package ($2,500), Iconic Glow Kidney Grille ($500), and Adaptive Cruise Control Stop & Go + Active Driving Assistant ($650) fill out the rest of the options list.

M Performance parts for the 2025 G90 BMW M5 are out. Do they help or hinder the aggressive design?

Of course, we haven't gotten to the packages on offer. There's a Carbon Fiber package ($3,100) that adds, you guessed it, carbon fiber to the roof, rear spoiler, and mirror caps. The manufacturer says this not only enhances the looks but reduces weight, although we can't see how this will make a difference when the new M5 weighs 5,390 lbs. An Executive Package ($1,850) adds several luxury features, such as front/rear heated seats, parking assistant plus, front ventilated seats, and more.

Drumroll, Please: Here's What A Fully-Equipped M5 Costs

Lastly, the 2025 M5 can also be had with the Driving Assistance Professional Package, which is priced at $1,700. Add it all up, and the new M5 will set you back $140,200 before delivery fees ($1,175). We're surprised that the Bimmer isn't available with more options, as luxury customers tend to enjoy unique color and finish choices, but the existence of the Frozen Orange one-off for Pebble Beach (that would carry an MSRP of around $200,000 if not being auctioned) suggests that the customization crazy need only ask and BMW will find a way to make their expensive dreams happen. Additionally, BMW has introduced more aggressive M Performance exterior parts for the M5 that can further inflate pricing.
